The day began with a journey from Downtown Los Angeles to Inglewood for breakfast at the legendary Serving Spoon. Getting there as a wheelchsir user on public transit was part of the adventure itself: about an hour on the Metro E Line, followed by a transfer to the Metro 212 bus, and then a 25-minute roll to the restaurant. When I finally arrived, the place was packed and buzzing with energy—loud, lively, and about 98% Black, which immediately felt like home. Navigating through the crowd took a bit of maneuvering, but the restaurant itself was wheelchair accessible and the staff were patient and accommodating. The Serving Spoon met all of my expectations—and then some. The menu was incredibly inviting, and I went with the eggs, grits, and a side of greens. Everything was outstanding. The eggs were fluffy and golden, the grits were absolutely banging—no seasoning needed, though I happily added black pepper—and the greens were rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The service matched the food: warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Even with the tight space during peak hours, I never felt rushed or overlooked. Despite the long trek from Downtown LA using the Metro E Line and the 212 bus, this is a place I have to return to at least once more before I leave. I absolutely enjoyed the food, staff and the ambience of The Serving Spoon.

The service was great, the food was great! The wait was long because there were a lot of people ahead of us but they’re very quick to get you in once a table is ready. Worth the wait!! The only thing you need to worry about is parking but there’s neighborhood streets with parking.

This is my literal go to every time I am back in LA. No shade to Roscoe’s, but I always enjoy the hospitality and family feel. Everyone comes in to enjoy some good few, but when sitting at the bar. You find yourselves enjoying in some great conversations, getting some good history and making a new friend. Also helps running into one of our alumni fraternity brothers randomly 🤣

When my party of 4 arrived, there were a significant number of people waiting to eat and it moved rather rapidly. I ordered the catfish with collard greens, black eyed peas, and cornbread. The fish and sides were delicious. The cornbread decent. It was my second time eating there and it was just as satisfying as my first trip. I wholeheartedly recommend people give it try.

Whenever I’m in LA I have to eat at The serving Spoon! Being a Chef myself I’m very very picky and I don’t eat anyone else’s cooking if I don’t have to but Here I’m never disappointed! Customer service is always good! It’s always packed and a wait but it’s never a long crazy wait! Food always good and em Turkey Chops be hitting! I love that it’s Family owned and I love to see all the young people working and earning their way ☺️ I’m in the mist of relocating to the area so I’ll be back even more now and I’m definitely looking forward to it! Keep up the great work

This place is well worth the wait, everything I ate here was a 10 out of 10! While you wait you get to listen to some RnB and once they seat you the food comes out fast. Josh did a great job recommending me food and letting me know what are the best options even though every options tasted like a great option. I had the breakfast burrito and a side of French both done to perfection.

I went for breakfast last week. This was my first time here. I see people post their food on Instagram. I walked in and was seated immediately. They greet you at the door with a smile. The server was nice. The food was good and hot. I like the way they coated their fish. French toast was good. Will be back.

So I went Thursday 9ish and the lot was full. I got a spot on the street no problem. I walked in and all smiles from the staff. My server asked about am I allergic to anything and I said no and she said what do you like and I said tell me and she made a great breakfast for me crispy bacon, scrambled eggs, cheese, a waffle and grits with the butter already in the grits. The eggs greet the bacon long and crispy, but the waffle was interesting because it was flat. I like it a little bit more bigger, but it was still crunchy and delicious and almost looked like a pancake, and can we talk about the grits? They were so well done and the butter was just right and I added some sugar and it's to die for the coffee was OK. I had a giant glass of water in the place again. It was like sitting in someone's living room. You could hear 10 different conversations and the great 80s soul music. It was lovely. The vibe in here is Total local.
